BREST, 18 August (BelTA) - Brest Oblast of Belarus has completed the harvest of grain and legume crops, BelTA learned from the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

As of the morning of 18 August, farmers in Brest Oblast have fully completed the grain harvest (excluding buckwheat and millet). The southwestern region has threshed 1.4 million tonnes of grain, with an average yield of 40.7 centners per hectare. The highest yield was recorded in Stolin District at 53.7 centners per hectare. Other Polesian districts also posted gains compared to last year. Baranovichi District, Pinsk District, Pruzhany District, and Stolin District - have each stored over 100,000 tonnes.

“Including winter rapeseed, the total threshed volume is 1,636,000 tonnes. Six districts have surpassed the 100,000-tonne mark for rapeseed: Ivanovo District, Kamenets District, Kobrin District, Pinsk District, Pruzhany District, and Stolin District. Luninets District fell just 650 tonnes short of the 100,000-tonne mark. Farmers in Baranovichi District have threshed 200,000 tonnes including rapeseed,” the oblast executive committee said.

Millet is grown in 13 districts of Brest Oblast, with harvesting already underway in Bereza District and Ivatsevichi District. Farmers also have yet to harvest buckwheat and spring rapeseed.

The sowing campaign has already begun in Brest Oblast. Farms are preparing the soil and sowing winter rapeseed. “We have already sown 61% of the planned area, 46,000 hectares. Farms intend to complete the work by 25 August,” the Brest Oblast Executive Committee added.
