08/07/2025 09:07
Brest Oblast has increased food exports over the past five years, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

By increasing output, Brest Oblast maintains the ability to satisfy domestic needs while also generating surplus production for international markets. For example, over the past five years, beef exports have increased by 1.5 times, the export of sausages and similar meat products has expanded by 2.6 times. The southwestern region exported almost three times more milk and cream (condensed), 1.8 times more butter, 1.7 times more cheese and cottage cheese, and 3.1 times more rapeseed oil.

“The region’s food export network has expanded to feature 68 countries. In response to fluctuating foreign markets, agricultural organizations of the region have successfully penetrated 23 new sales markets. Among them are Bahrain, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Zambia, Iraq, Iran, Cyprus, Cuba, Kuwait, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Mongolia, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Slovenia, Türkiye, Chile, Equatorial Guinea,” the Agriculture and Food Committee informed.

In Brest Oblast, there are 844 peasant (farming) households, with 765 of them actively involved in agricultural activities. They mainly supply vegetables for export (almost 80%), as well as apples, apricots, cherries, plums, plants and flowers, hop cones grown. “In 2024, peasant (farming) households exported their products to ten countries,” the committee remarked.
